Glad you posted these pics, This is the perfect size and form of a building for this urban space. We don't need tall skyscrapers that dwarf the existing buildings when this size building will do. The old flatiron building was built as a medical school. There is an oil painting of it hanging in the lecture room of the Medical History Museum at Central State. We are lucky it wasn't torn down over the years like the other 90% of downtown Indy. I've never been inside, and I suppose the inside has been extensively remodeled, but I wonder if there is any vestige of the medical school past, like old labs or classrooms? Maybe even old skeletons bricked up in the basement?

3MassAve is great in density. Unfortunately, the building's make-up is way too traditional. I believe much of the blame can be pointed to idyllic historic preservationists, but the placement/size of most windows (especially on the street level) NEED to be addressed as a HUGE mis-opportunity. Also the exterior make-up is your typical brick/concrete institutional look. For such a high profile development in the heart of it all ---bridging the Arts/Theatre and financial districts---3MassAve should be dressed up with a more international/contemporary look. This would help architecture in conservative Indy to demonstrate how it could have positive effects on addressing issues, especially CRIME. 3MassAve is a good step for downtown Indy in terms of density but we still have a lot of growing up to do when it comes to developing a sense of place---especially changing the perception w/out spending the extra money to copy the big cities. When will we develop the Indianapolis style to benefit Indiana and her capital?

Whatever 3MassAve should look like depends on what it is supposed to be used for (especially on the street level) So what is this building for anyway?

Well, it's high-end residential above multiple commercial spaces. I could imagine a restaurant, bar and other shops on the lower level. Unfortunately, 3Mass Ave. is in Indy, which is land-locked and there's no outlet for the cruise ship (if you want to talk about what the building looks like) and I'm definitely not going to propose a casino for Mass Ave.

About the make-up comment, though, I would propose something a bit more urban and diverse. The traditional materials used look so sterile and institutional with predictable BLAND interior spaces. Great location and perfect density however! It will also be interesting to see how 'green' it will actually become. Are those plants in pots on the roof worthy of such a distinction----please...

...a more transparent architecture is what i would propose but a lot of security issues based on fear would'nt allow this to happen. Unfortunately, this is what traditional architecture promotes: criminal activity from social isolation.
