Soon to Be Under Construction (?): Uptown Indy

Signs up for a new commercial development at 49th and College. Only time will tell if this thing gets funded and built. It's notable as one of the rare examples of in town densification, with a mixed use structure actually replacing some single family homes, something almost unheard of in Indianapolis. I'm very pleased to see they called this Uptown, as it is most certainly not Midtown.

Old houses on the chopping block.

I remember when that was published in the Broad Ripple Newspaper.... had to be more than a year ago. Interesting to see a sign up now. I think it's different than what they originally published.

Per usual, the neighbors and the city made this guy do the usual dance. At least that's what I'm given to understand.

The Uptown was a neighborhood movie theater on College Ave. about 42nd. St., much like the Vogue was in Broad Ripple.

If this ever gets built it will be too dense with not nearly enough parking. Yes, you must do the dance, but not enough people took part to down size this project.

^^ That's not true. They have to make sure the residents have parking spaces. Density is something this city needs.

Smart Growth Mixed Use in the center of Midtown across our country, TOD on our corridors helps create so many opportunities for people in the community, including actual property value increase not just property, sales, and income tax increase. The developer and the community have invested enormous time and money, working with the neighborhood, City, and State to create this opportunity and earn our community's needed public partnerships. With our community’s private dollars invested and now with the driver’s investment from our City and State leaders, we can ensure success of what policy makers have been saying they want, and our community has been saying we need. Public Private Partnership investments help City’s Grow.
At this most dense, important location in the center of Indiana, our city and community’s foundation needs to revitalize, creating economic development and job opportunities for the people. With leadership and action congruent with what drivers have said they want, together we will create local examples of this national proven success model, at a location that can pay back, to our public investment hundreds of times over.
